Electoral Office worker axed

By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – MYSTERY seems to surround a situation in which an employee of the Electoral Office in Nevis was recently relieved of his duties and everyone is tight-lipped.

Reports reaching SKNVibes suggest that Godfrey David, a Registration Officer in that office for approximately 10 years, was dismissed two days ago (April 19) and circumstances leading to his dismissal are still unclear, but rumours are rife.

Recently, Leader of the Opposition and Parliamentary Representative for Constituency Number Nine, the Hon. Mark Brantley, made objection to a number of names which, as he claimed, were those of persons registered in St. Kitts and appeared on the Voters’ List in Nevis.

SKNVibes understands that David was the officer who presided over the matter and the names were stricken from the List.

In order to confirm that David was dismissed because of his involvement in this matter, this media house made several attempts yesterday morning (Apr. 20) to contact him, which were initially unsuccessful. Attempts were also made to contact the Supervisor of Elections, Leroy Benjamin Sr., which bore fruit but his curt response shed little light on the situation.

After confirming that the reports SKNVibes heard were nothing but a “rumour”, Benjamin said he would offer no further comment and suggested that David be contacted and questioned about “the letter” he was given. Benjamin informed that he could be reached after contact had been made with David.

Further attempts [yesterday afternoon] to contact David were successful. When asked about his “dismissal”, he said, “This is not something I want to discuss with anybody at this moment. I will just leave it at that because I’ve got some other thoughts.”

As advised by the Elections Supervisor, SKNVibes contacted him after speaking to David but he indicated that he was unavailable for comment.
