Nicha B love for music now a reality

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – CHANGE, like death, is inevitable. However, the most significant aspect of it is when one can do so for the better of not only oneself but society as a whole.

One such person is former gang member Nicha Byron, who for many years had developed a penchant for music but has recently taken it to a level where the world can hear the melodious voice with which he is blessed.

According to Byron, his love for music was realised while going to school, but he never took it seriously until 2008 when he migrated to England, where he resided for more than a year.

He said most of his friends in England are musicians and that motivated him to put his talent to use. He then penned his first song, titled ‘Stop The Crime’, and performed at a number of charity concerts.

The young singer/songwriter said his music had created that change in him and he now spends more time writing positive songs and trying to stay away from negative activities.

Nicha B, which he goes by, or Born Again, a name he adopted because he considers himself to be reborn, knowing that he has changed certain things about his lifestyle.

“I once lived an uneasy life where I got caught up in gang and violence for a while, and now I am trying to stay far form that and my music allows me to do so,” said Byron.

The 21-year-old has penned a number of songs including ‘Angel’, ‘My Pray’, ‘Welcome to SKB’, ‘My Life’ and ‘School Time Lover’.

While he continues to write songs and is busy in the studio laying down more tracks, he is also currently focusing on promoting ‘Welcome to SKB’ and ‘School Time Lover’ as his ‘coming out’ singles.

The first song, ‘Welcome to SKB’, was recorded at SKN Entertainment Studios and tells of the feel of St. Kitts and Nevis and invites one and all. He said the lyrics for this song were always in his heart, so he just wrote what he felt inside.

On the other hand, ‘School Time Lover’ was recorded at Yard Tune Production Studio and speaks of a girl he dated while in school. Byron said this song was not written about anyone in particular, but rather an ordinary song that many people can relate to.

“I heard the beat, liked it and just started singing,” Byron added

A music video is currently in the works for ‘Welcome to SKB’ and will be released in the next few months.

With his unique style of conscious Reggae with a bit of R&B flavour, Nicha B said he is hoping for his music to take him to an international level.

The public will get a taste of what this young singer has to offer, as he will be performing for the first time on Thursday, April 29 at the monthly Island Xpression showcase at Mau Pau.

Nicha B said he was also asked to collaborate on a song with Mykal Somer and he is gearing up to do a number of dub plates for various DJs. Therefore, the public can definitely look forward to getting use to his voice and music.
