Racing resumes this Sunday at Beaumont Park

Press Release

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - Thoroughbred racing resumes in Dieppe Bay this Sunday, April 25th, 2010 at Beaumont Park with a first post of 3:00 p.m. Gates will be open at 1:00 p.m. at this popular entertainment venue on St. Kitts.

Five races have been carded for the afternoon with competitive full-fields of eight horses in each event. Each race will carry a purse of EC$8,000.

E Z Smile, a local favorite, returns after a two-month freshening in the opener at five furlongs. Owned by Sally Martin and trained by Lebert Liking, E Z Smile who has won four of her six starts at the Beaumont Park oval, will be meeting the likes of Rollofthunder, Dryden, and Affirmed Destiny in this open company event. Jockey Michael Semple once again has the call.

Expect Post Pattern to rule as the slight choice in a wide open race going four panels in the second race. Post Pattern, ran a nice third to Val d’Isere and Renwood Ridge back on March 14th, in a two furlong event. Owner and trainer Clement Barnes will give a leg-up to jockey Laird Bailey who has the mount.

In the third race going four furlongs, Full Breed and Norse Spirit have hopes of keeping their win streaks alive after both enjoyed victories on Easter Monday. Full Breed and Norse Spirit will be meeting each other for the first time, but both horses will have to be on the bit to stand-off the charges of horses of equal caliber in this field of eight. This race is certain to be one of the finer events on the card.

Dothewildthing, owned and trained by Edward Mohan, is looking to repeat his six and one-half furlong effort from the 5th of April. Winning in a drive, Dothewildthing on that day held off the challenges of Port Oscar and Brilliant Bride. Both will be trying to turn the tables in the fourth race this Sunday afternoon.

In the feature race of the day, High Wire Glory will probably go postward as the post time favorite in the betting as he will take on the likes of Murray’s Mazal, Al Portador, Zapthatstar, and Prince Igor. High Wire Glory finished a solid second behing Schleishinger in “The Easter Cup” sponsored by Digicel on Easter Monday. In that race, Schleishinger shattered the track record at Beaumont Park, going the one mile distance in one minute-thirty nine seconds flat.

This race promises to be one you won’t want to miss going six and one-half furlongs.
