Windies remain undefeated in T20 lead up

Shanel Daley continues to impress with the ball

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – PAKISTAN’s women failed to defend a low total of 84/all out yesterday (Apr. 26) at the Edgar Gilbert Sporting Complex as West Indies continue to refine their form ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 tournament.

Shanel Daley and Anisa Mohammed once again led the bowling effort as they had done in the recent 3-0 series win against Sri Lanka.

Pakistan chose to bat in the series opener at Molineaux, but quickly discovered that Daley’s medium pace was particularly efficient on the pitch following heavy rains on Sunday. Opening batswoman Nain Abidi made early inroads on a quick drive to 18, but was dismissed by Mohammed before any real momentum was created.

This opened the door for Daley, who picked up four of the next five wickets to leave Pakistan teetering at 6 for 47. Having only given up six runs during the flourish, Daley was easily the star of the match.

Captain Sana Mir contributed 18 while Qanita Jalil added 12 to bolster an otherwise flat batting performance from Pakistan, but as the only two batswomen to reach double digits the team was still left with a difficult total to defend against a surging Windies.

Left-arm orthodox spinner Sadia Yousef gave a gutsy challenge to the hosts when they took to the crease after the break and quickly picked up wickets from Pamela Lavine, Cordel Jack and Juliana Nero, shocking West Indies to 3 for 35.

Right-handed 19-year-old Deandra Dottin eventually snapped Windies alive with 28 from 23 balls, including 4 fours and a six during her partnership with Stacy-Ann King.

King also added an unbeaten 25 to guide West Indies to the very close four-wicket victory, with a final total of 88/6 from 19.4 overs.

West Indies and Pakistan continued their Twenty20 series today (Apr. 27) at Molineaux and will play a third scheduled match on Friday (Apr. 29) at the same venue.
