Conaree woman seeks public’s help in retrieving stolen items

Novelette Benjamin

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young woman of Conaree Village has appealed for public assistance in reclaiming her stolen goods after falling victim to an act of larceny for the third time in 18 months.

As a resident of Conaree for the past 20 years, Novelette Benjamin lived peacefully with her sister and was never the target of any criminal behaviour.

But when her sister moved out in 2009, Benjamin began experiencing something that no home-owner, much less a young female living alone, wants to go through.

“The first incident happened in early 2009 when the amp in my car was stolen. The second one was in August of that year.

“I left home for a couple hours in the morning. When I got back, I couldn’t get my door open, and that was because the thieves had tied my phone charger to the doorknob and a kitchen cupboard. When I finally got inside I realised that my stereo set, two big speakers, a DVD surround system, my iPod and all my DVDs and CDs had been stolen.

“It looked like they had been searching in my bedroom. My jewellery boxes were thrown around and my drawers were opened,” Benjamin recounted.

But it was the third incident, which occurred Saturday (Apr. 24), that pushed Benjamin’s patience to the limit.

She went out to celebrate a co-worker’s birthday and left her laptop on her bed, directly underneath her bedroom window. When she returned, the laptop was nowhere to be seen.

“I had left the top window open, but the bottom one was closed. Whoever took my laptop must have put their hand through the top window, opened the bottom one and pulled my laptop out the window,” Benjamin speculated.

She added that the situation was becoming increasingly frustrating, noting she worked hard for her possessions and that she got along well with her neighbours.

Police reports filed after each incident failed to bear fruit, and Benjamin claimed she was still awaiting feedback in relation to the investigations’ progress.

“I just feel so bad to say I’m a young person working for myself and everyone keeps targeting me. I’m not getting any response from the police or any of my goods back.

“I feel like I’m being targeted. I don’t understand why, because I don’t trouble anyone and I’m not a disgusting neighbour. I would like whoever is doing this to me to be caught so I can get my laptop back.”

Benjamin’s laptop is a Lenovo brand with serial number L3CKK7H and model number 444624u. She is requesting that anyone with relevant information about its whereabouts contact her at 663-8334 or at noveepressure@hotmail.com.
