BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – SHOTS were fired late Friday night (Apr. 30) at the building that houses Government Headquarters on Church Street, Basseterre, forcing the police officer on duty to return fire.

Reports reaching SKNVibes indicate that about 11:00 p.m. a black car without number plates drove past the building and fired two shots. The officer on duty reportedly took cover, returned fire and the car turned right onto Liverpool Row and headed in the direction of Irish Town.

It is not yet known if the police officer on duty was the intended target or what the shootist motive was. However, a police press release issued yesterday afternoon stated that investigations are ongoing.

“On Friday 30th April 2010 police responded to a report of shooting which occurred at approximately 11:00 pm at Church Street in the vicinity of Government Headquarters. According to police reports shots were fired from a vehicle traveling down Church Street and the police on duty at Government Headquarters returned fire. No one has been reported injured. The scene has been processed by officers of the Crime Scene Department,” the release read.

This media house visited the scene early yesterday morning and everything seemed normal.
