BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE representative of Constituency One, 18-year-old Janaie Browne, captured the Miss Labour title last evening (May 1) at Carnival Village.
Browne accumulated a total of 409.5 points, winning the Best Promotional Speech and Best Performing Talent segments and beating her closest competitor by five and a half points.
Tevrehn Bedford of Constituency Seven was awarded the First Runner-up position and she also captured the Creative Wear segment, while Patricia Francis of Constituency Six was the Second Runner with 388 points and being voted winner of the Evening Wear segment.
The Third Runner-up position went to Kyanna Pinney of Constituency Two, who accumulated a total of 369 points.
The other contestants were Amanny Greene of Constituency Three, Shanice Blake of Constituency Four, Saleema Hendrickson of Constituency Five and Denise Harrigan of Constituency Eight.
At the end of the show, the general consensus of the crowd was that it was fairly judged. Browne performed consistently in the four judged-segments. Her Promotional Speech was expressed with confidence and good content and she impressed everyone with her Creative Wear that was made out of braids and weave. She made a grand entrance onstage atop a motorbike that made her stood out from the other contestants.
Her winning Talent was a dramatic dance presentation that highlighted local significant dates including 1967 and 1993.
Her Evening Wear was a peach-coloured gown that complemented her figure and included a glittering one strap that began from her right shoulder to the left side of her lower back.
The house band for the night was the Royalties, which provided sideshow performances by Charles Miller and Mic Stokes, and Alicia Key’s ‘No One’ was performed by former Miss Labour pageant winner Ticoya Henry.
Other acts included Sudie Pop, Karisa Willett and dance performances by Rising Stars, Dynasty Academy of Performing Art and Angelic Step.
There was also a cultural presentation by Sylvester’s Masquerade and the National Anthem was performed by Linika Small.
Tamara Dorset took her final walk as the reigning queen and immediately following the pageant regional Jamaican dancehall star Busy Signal thrilled the audience.
Busy Signal, who recently released his third album ‘D.O.B’ which features ‘One More Night’ and ‘Sweet love (Night Shift)’, performed his popular tunes ‘Step Out’, ‘Not Going Down’, ‘Pon Di Edge’, ‘Jail’, ‘Unknown Number’, ‘These are the days’ and ‘Praise and Worship’.
