BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A 16-year-old male is currently at the Joseph N. France General Hospital nursing a gunshot wound which was inflicted by a member of the Federation’s security forces shortly after mid-day yesterday (May 6).
SKNVibes understands that a young man was in Cayon in the vicinity of the Cayon High School when he sustained the wound to one of his legs.
According to information disseminated by the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force’s Press and Public Relations Officer, the incident was initiated when juveniles began throwing missiles.
“At approximately 12:30 pm this afternoon police at the Cayon Police Station responded to a report of throwing missiles at the Cayon High School. Investigations revealed that a group of juvenile males were throwing missiles from a bushy area nearby the school much to the danger and discomfort of the students and teachers and when the police arrived a number of them ran but a sixteen (16) years old male of Cayon who was at the time mask threw a missile at the police and the police discharged a single shot and injured his attacker.
“The injured juvenile was taken to the JNF Hospital where he is presently undergoing treatment for his injuries. The police are looking for a number of suspects in relation to the throwing missiles.”
Further information received by this media house suggests that the sound of a gunshot was heard after which two individuals, one masked and the other wearing a school uniform, were being pursued by a police officer but evaded capture by seeking refuge in the vicinity of the Cayon Community Centre.
Further reports suggest that the individual clad in the school uniform endeavoured to make an escape by foot, travelling eastward along the island main road but collapsed meters into his attempt. The other individual, SKNVibes understands, is yet to be found.
While some believe that the young man is a student of the Cayon High School, SKNVibes has yet to substantiate that claim. Investigations into the matter are ongoing.
