CHARLESTOWN, Nevis - JUST three days after her boyfriend died after consuming a quantity of gramoxone, a 36-year-old Guyanese resident on Nevis hanged herself.

Dead is Nalini Persaud, who was found about 2:00 this afternoon (May 7) by 13-year-old daughter Bohawantie hanging by the neck in the kitchen of her Bath Village residence.

According to Inspector Andre Mitchell, police officers responded to a call in Bath Village at approximately 2:30 p.m. and on arrival they met Persaud lying on the floor in her kitchen with a “cement rope” around her neck.

He noted that she was immediately rushed to the Alexandra Hospital by ambulance, but she was pronounced dead on arrival.

Mitchell added that her said on arrival home she met her mother hanging from the kitchen’s ceiling and she immediately cut the rope with a knife.

SKNVibes asked one of Persuad’s sons if he knew what motivated his mother to commit suicide and he replied in the negative, noting he is still trying to figure out the cause of the tragedy.

He however said, “Many Indo-Guyanese believe in reincarnation but we don’t believe in it.”

Persuad was the girlfriend of the late Shivpaul Balgobin (31), also native of Guyana who has been residing on Nevis over some nine years.

Reports reaching this media house indicated that Balgobin and Persaud had a quarrel on Saturday morning (May 1) shortly before he left the home to work on her father’s farm in bath Village.

However, according to a family member, while at the farm at about mid-day he drank some gramoxone and left for his home.

“When he got home, he went and lie down in a hammock and his girlfriend saw that he was frothing from the mouth. She immediately called the police and they took him to Alexandra Hospital. He was admitted and they tried to save his life, but I got a message that he died at approximately 5:00 this morning (May 4),” the relative said.

Shivpaul Balgobin, also known as Blako, will be buried tomorrow in Nevis.
