BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A trend earlier established by the Federation’s security forces continues with the seizure of two more firearms.

Press and Public Relations Officer of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, Inspector Vaughan Henderson, has informed – by way of press release - that after 11:00 yesterday morning (May 6) a search was conducted in the McKnight area which led to a firearm being found.

“Law enforcement continues to work closely with the general public and is making significant inroads in the fight against illegal firearms. At about 11:20 a.m. on Thursday 6th May 2010, members of Anti-Gang Unit carried out an intelligence-led patrol and found one (1) .45 pistol and five (5) rounds of .45 ammunition in the Mc Knight area.”

The release indicated that a young man, 17 years old, was taken into police custody. SKNVibes understands that charges, if any, have yet to be preferred against the lad.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) with responsibility for Crime, Joseph Liburd, told SKNVibes that another firearm was found and taken into police custody. He said the operation which led to the find took place early this morning (May 7).

“During the early hours of this morning a search warrant was executed on a home in Cayon and  one .380 pistol with six matching rounds of ammunition along with a magazine for a 5.56 rifle with four 5.56 rounds of ammunition were found and taken into custody.”

Liburd informed that one male and two females were taken into police custody in connection with the find.

This is the 21st firearm removed from the Federation’s streets by the armed forces for the year.  Both incidents are under investigation.
