KiNGSTOWN, St. Vincent – ORGANISERS of the 2010 St. Vincent Carnival, better known as Vincy Mas, promise that it would be the hottest carnival in the Caribbean.
On Saturday, May 8, Minister of Culture Rene Baptiste declared the festival officially launched during a ceremony that heard addresses from the carnival organisers and sponsors, and saw the first official public appearance of the 10 contestants.
A number of activities and performances took place, including whistle stops and showcases of 2010 Carnival and J’Ouvert costumes.
The Vincy Mas 2010 programme of activities will see the Miss SVG Pageant on May 29 as the first event to kick things off, while Fantastic Friday takes place on June 18, Ragga Soca on June 25 and the Junior Carnival on June 26.
There will also be a Panorama and Junior Pan Fest as well as Junior and Senior Calypso and Soca Monarch competitions. The Miss Carival Queen Pageant will take place on July 2 where a number of contestants from various countries including St. Kitts will vie for the 2010 title.
The Evening Street Parade will take place on Monday July 5 with Mardi Gras following on July 6, bringing the carnival celebrations to an end.
