Blackplanet co-founder to be featured speaker at ICT forum

    Road Town, Tortola - Mr. Omar Wasow, BlackPlanet.com co-founder and NBCInternet analyst, will be the featured speaker at the May 17 Banking and InvestmentForum to be held at the H. Lavity StouttCommunity College’s Auditorium as part of theICT Roadshow activities under the theme “Promoting Safe and Effective Technology in the BVI”.

     

    Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Julian Fraser, RA stated that he is pleased that Mr. Wasow, who is internationally respected, has accepted the Government’s invitation to speak at this forum on the timely topic of “The Possibilities of an Information Society in the BVI”.

     

    Sponsored by the Ministry of Communications and Works, in collaboration with the Telecommunications Regulatory Commission and the Caribbean Telecommunications Union and local sponsors BVI Cable TV, CCT Global Communications, Digicel, and LIME, the half-day forum will explore banking practices and policies which promote information and communication technology, business development and investment. It will also focus on enabling e-commerce, security and data privacy and encouraging entrepreneurship.

     

    The Banking and Investment Forum is also designed to help business owners and operators understand how technology can benefit them as an organisation by increasing customer satisfaction and efficiency.

     

    Other presenters will include Mr. Robert Mathavious, Managing Director of the Financial Services Commission and Mr. Ray Gopaul, Manager of First Citizens Bank of
    Trinidad and Tobago.

     

    Mr. Omar Wasow is the co-founder and strategic advisor for the social networking website, www.blackplanet.com and in 1995 Newsweek proclaimed him as one of the 50 most influential people to watch in cyberspace. He has been described by The New York Times as the “Silicon Alley’s Philosopher-Prince” and has been featured on the Oprah Winfrey Show.

     

    The forum runs from 9 am to 12 noon and also addresses topics ranging from creating an environment for investment to making investment attractive.
