BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – COURY Gatorade Conaree F. C. received a well deserved boost of EC $500 yesterday (May 11) as they prepare for the much-anticipated Digicel St. Kitts-Nevis Football Association Premier League Final Four.

The donation was made by Donald Farrell of Farrell’s Canvas at a brief ceremony held at SKNVibes’ new office on Lozack Road.  As an avid sports fan, Farrell said that he aimed to give “incentive” to the young men of Conaree and promised them the $500 if they could make it to the Final Four this season.

“For a number of years now, the Conaree Footbal Club has been knocking on the doors of the Premier League with the youngsters there trying their best to elevate the community from a football standpoint. They have been trying very hard to get into the Final Four so I just decided to give them a little incentive to achieve their goals,” he said.

Farrell said that he believed the financial donation would encourage the men from Conaree to play to the best of their ability in the Final Four. Though this is Conaree’s first time in the playoffs of the top national competition and they will be playing big names such as S. L. Horsford’s St. Pauls United and TDC Newtown United, Farrell said he believes they have a real shot at the championship.

“This donation would basically encourage the youngsters of the community to go out and fight a little harder. I think they are one of the lesser community teams in terms of backing throughout the island…but I think it’s a very great achievement for their community,” Farrell stated.

Accepting the donation on behalf of the Conaree team was Club President Timothy Morton, who repeatedly thanked Farrell for the gracious gesture.

“Our club is not an established club in terms of having many years. I think we started about four or five years ago and making it to the Final Four is a great accomplishment. We want to extend our gratitude to Mr. Farrell for making this donation. I think it gave the guys an extra incentive to make the Final Four.”

Morton said that the money would likely go toward entering the area footballers into a training camp or financing T-shirts, among other things.

“We have a lot of things happening right now, so that money will come in very handy,” the President said.
