LOGOS Hope is here! Coming to Nevis shortly

By: VonDez Phipps, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AFTER much anticipation, the LOGOS HOPE has made its very first visit to the Federation and will be berthed at Port Zante for the next four days on its mission of ‘Bringing Knowledge, Help and Hope’ to the nations of the world.

This marks the vessel’s 25th port of call and its stint in St. Kitts and Nevis holds a packed schedule of events and activities for every member of the family to enjoy.

LOGOS Hope is about three times larger than any other LOGOS vessel that has visited the Federation and is decked with book galleries, a kids’ area, international cafe and a small theatre accessible to the public. The entire deck is air-conditioned to ensure a comfortable experience.

The vessel, operated by the international charity GBA Ships e. V., brings to the Federation an expanded selection of over 7 500 books that cover a range of subjects including education, sports, hobbies and religion. There is something for everyone at the LOGOS book fairs, and students would benefit from children’s books, academic texts, dictionaries, atlases and learning resources. The book fairs will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily.

Though the ship is known mostly for its floating book fairs that offers quality literature at a fraction of their retail value, it has an extended vision to bring hope to the lives of Kittitians and Nevisians through community outreach projects and a variety of dynamic on-shore and onboard programmes.

In an interview with SKNVibes, LOGOS HOPE Project Coordinator Andre Choi informed that the community programmes seek to give crew members a real Kittitian and Nevisian experience, as they are expected to engage in community development projects on both islands.

“It’s great that Nevis can be part of the programme because so many people have been asking for the ship to go there. The support that we have received from the Nevisian community has been overwhelming. They have reserved a special ferry just to come to one of our youth programmes and these are things that I never imagined could happen. I really feel like we are not just visiting St. Kitts; we are visiting both islands. That for me was our team’s goal. It’s a real honour and blessing to do that,” Choi noted.

Although the book fairs and youth programmes will be held onboard the ship in St. Kitts, Nevisians can also look forward to a tangible LOGOS presence. A team of over 20 members of the ship’s Deck Department will be heading to Nevis this coming Saturday (May 15) to hold a book fair in The Square, Charlestown.

The event will run from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and would give residents of Nevis an opportunity to purchase books without travelling to Port Zante.

Choi added that a smaller contingent of crew members will be spending the five days in Nevis and will be involved in community projects in collaboration with the churches there.

The LOGOS Hope has a schedule of on-board programmes. On Friday, ‘What Makes Your Heart Beat’ begins at 7:00 p.m. and is expected to attract youths 13 years and older, while Saturday will have sessions for pastors and their spouses. Sunday’s ‘Mission Possible’ and ‘Touching Two Eternies’ will be dynamic and youthful events. Tickets will be available onboard.

The entrance fee to the book fair is only EC$2 and children under 16 years enter free with the accompaniment of an adult.
