BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A young man was this afternoon (May 14) chopped and stabbed multiple times to the body and was taken to the Joseph N France General Hospital in an unconscious state.

Lovelle Charles of King Street, Basseterre is hospitalised after an unidentified man chopped and stabbed him on the head, leg, left shoulder and both arms during an altercation at the corner of Wellington and Lozac Roads shortly after 4:00 p.m.

On arrival at the scene, SKNVibes observed two paramedics administering treatment to the wounded man while awaiting an ambulance, which arrived some 30 minutes after the incident.

Eyewitness account indicates that a fight started between Charles and an unidentified young man, who had an object in his hand that seemed to be a long dagger.

One eyewitness claimed that the unidentified man attacked Charles and was chopping and stabbing him during the process while a large crowd had gathered.

“He attacked the man and was chopping and stabbing him and nobody went to his assistance, because many of us observed a group of young men, who are known to be from one the gangs in St. Kitts, in an agitated mood.

“The young man fell to the ground and was bleeding profusely. Then his assailant started kicking him in his head and stomped him repeatedly in the chest,” the eyewitness said.

Another eyewitness alleged that a female police officer had also witnessed the incident.

“While the man was wounding the other one, a woman police officer was sitting in a passenger bus and I believe that she saw everything that happened. After the young man stopped wounding the one that fell to the ground, his shirt was bloody and while he was leaving the scene and passing by the bus, the officer stretched out her hand from inside the bus to hold him. However, he evaded her and ran down Johnson Street and headed towards Newtown.”

SKNVibes learnt that Charles’ condition is critical but stable.

When contacted, the police had not much information to provide this media house but indicated that investigations into the matter are ongoing.
