BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – THE mother and child who had to be removed from a wrecked omnibus on Friday (May 14) are said to have suffered minor injuries and are on their way to recovery.
Sometime around 4:09 on that afternoon, as stated by the Traffic Department, Tilden Francois was operating omnibus H9361 - owned by Kester Caines of Spooners Village - with Makeda Eddy and their two-year-old daughter Tildencia Francios in the front passenger seat when a collision occurred.
The incident took place along Wellington Road in the vicinity of the Power Station and LIME’s compound in Needsmust.
Francois was travelling behind Leoan Matthew, who was driving LIME-owned pickup PA4307 when, after braking in preparation to turn into LIME’s compound, Francois struck Matthew’s vehicle causing it to spin before stopping in the gateway to LIME’s compound.
Officer Percy Daniel of the Traffic Department told SKNVibes that Matthew escaped the ordeal completely unscathed. He however noted that Francois, Eddy and the child were taken to the Joseph N. France General Hospital for treatment.
Daniel said he is thankful that the incident did not result in any major injuries, but reported that the toddler sustained a cut on her chin while the mother complained of pain in her legs.
The impact of the collision forced the front portion of the bus inward causing some pressure to Eddy’s legs, resulting in the need for assistance to pry both mother and child from the vehicle.
SKNVibes was reliably informed that a couple of men used a pickup and rope in their attempt to dislodge the front passenger door from its frame and remove the mother and tot from the vehicle.
Investigations into the incident, Daniel explained, are ongoing.
