Mothers celebrating their day with the CCM government at the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland.
    Charlestown Nevis
(May 15, 2006) -- The ruling Concerned Citizens Movement (CCM) party Sunday evening announced its slate of candidates for the upcoming Nevis Island Assembly elections but political leader and Premier, the Hon Mr Vance Amory, said he was yet to ring the bell.

Addressing an enthusiastic crowd, estimated to be in the region of two thousand, that had gathered on the grounds of the Old Manor Hotel in Gingerland for a Mothers' Day bash hosted by the CCM, the only surprise name on its slate for the five-member assembly was Mr Gene Herbert, a well-known CCM Party organiser, as candidate for the St. Thomas' Parish, currently held by leader of the opposition party, Nevis Reformation Party (NRP), the Hon Mr Joseph Parry.

CCM holds four of the Nevis Island Assembly seats, with torch-
bearer Premier Amory as the incumbent for the St. George's Parish. Others are the Deputy Premier and Minister of Tourism, the Hon Mr Malcolm Guishard (St. John's), the Minister of Health, Gender and Social Affairs, the Hon Mrs Jean Harris (St. James'), and the Minister of Works, Physical Planning and Infrastructural Development the Hon Mr A. Michael Perkins (St. Paul's).

On the announcement of the candidates, who stood on the stage, Premier Amory said Nevis had experienced tremendous growth under his party's watch, adding: "Let me say to all of you that we expect that we can go from this to greater heights because our country deserves to go up to better things and although it is not a campaign, we have on stage with me the winning team for this country."

The crowd cheered the team but when it started shouting "ring the bell", Premier Amory replied: "When the time comes for us to ring the bell, we will ring it loud and clear for everyone to hear." He pointed out that those who have been announcing dates "they do not control the bell."

Premier Amory thanked all the mothers, fathers and children who had accepted the CCM Party's invitation to celebrate Mothers' Day noting that mothers were responsible for the local communities and requested of them to feel good about the role they were playing.

"I want to ask you to take seriously your responsibility of motherhood to ensure that our Nevis community continues to be the paradise which we want it to be," commented the Premier. "We in the CCM Government have made it our business to ensure that the development policies which we have put in place are bearing fruit and every single one of you, every single household, in this country has benefited from the policies of this Party."

The Rev. Nicole Ballosingh Holder of Trinidad entertained the large gathering with her soca gospel renditions. The curtains came down on the evening's entertainment with the crowd dancing and chanting to King Meeko's new album "Don't rock the boat. Give CCM your vote.

Persons attending the function included all ministers of government and their spouses and Advisor to the Cabinet, Mr Oban Lawrence.
