Police Constable shot in Frigate Bay

By: Stanford Conway, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A male member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force was shot earlier tonight (May 18) in the Frigate Bay area and is currently hospitalised.

Reports reaching SKNVibes indicated that sometime before 9:00 p.m. a male Constable, who was off duty in the Frigate Bay area, was shot by an unknown assailant.

When contacted, Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson told this media house that about 8:55 p.m. police responded to a shooting incident in Frigate Bay.

“Investigations revealed that a Police Constable was shot in one of his legs and was taken to the JNF General Hospital by a unit of the Emergency Medical Services. The officer was detained at the hospital, where he was treated for his injury and is in stable condition,” Henderson said.

According to Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime (ACP), Joseph Liburd, who confirmed that the Constable was off duty, further investigations revealed that it was an apparent robbery; however, the gunman might not have realised that his civilian-clothed victim was a member of the police force.

He also stated that so far no suspect was held but investigations are ongoing.
