Basseterre, St. Kitts – THE Police Constable who was shot last night (May 18) is alleged to have been performing security duties at a private residence in Frigate Bay.

The Constable was shot in the leg and is currently recuperating from his injury at the Joseph N France General Hospital, where he is reportedly in stable condition.

According to a release from Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, “On Tuesday 18th May 2010 police responded to a report of shooting which occurred at approximately 8:55 p.m. at Frigate Bay. Investigations revealed that an off duty police constable was attacked by a lone assailant in what appeared to be an attempt robbery and was shot in his leg, but managed to return a couple shots at his attacker who managed to escape.”

SKNVibes however learnt that the Constable, who is attached to the Special Service Unit (SSU), was providing security service at the Frigate Bay residence of a well-known accountant.

Information received indicated that the Constable was approached from the rear by a lone gunman who fired a number of shots at him, but only one caught him in the leg.

On arrival at the crime scene this morning, SKNVibes observed a number of officers under a tent, where the accountant's vehicles are parked, obviously conducting investigations into the shooting incident.

When contacted for a comment on the officer's second job, the Assistant Commissioner of Police with responsibility for Crime, Joseph Liburd, said he could not confirm the allegation but declared that in addition to investigations into last night’s shooting, another investigation would be done to ascertain if the Constable was moon-lighting.
