BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – AN invitation has been extended to all taxi and omnibus drivers to be part of a Drivers’ Education Seminar focusing on good driving courtesies and reducing vehicular accidents.
This coming Sunday (May 30), all operators of hired buses and taxis are expected to convene at the Ocean Terrace Inn at 5:00 p.m. to engage in interactive sessions underscoring the importance of careful driving.
This driving initiative is being organized collaboratively by St. Kitts-Nevis Insurance Company (SNIC) and the St. Kitts-Nevis Finance Company (FINCO), two of the major subsidiaries of the TDC Group of Companies.
A slate of professionals from a number of sectors will lead the discussions during the seminar. A SNIC representative will open with a discussion on Insurance and the Driver, which would be complemented by a presentation on Road Safety by Traffic Inspector Cromwell Henry.
Participating motorists will then learn of Legal Implications of Serious Accidents by Emile Ferdinand of Kelsick, Wilkin and Ferdinand Law Firm, followed by a presentation on Treating Your Business as a Business by FINCO Operations Manager Ruth Hodge.
According to a company press statement, “We believe that, as Corporate Social Citizens, we must continue to play our part in ensuring that the driving public is adequately educated about their responsibilities as motorists.”
Before the participants engage the facilitators in a question and answer session, Chief Medical Officer Dr. Patrick Martin will make a presentation on The Impact of Accidents on Public Health Services.
The event underscores TDC’s commitment to the public in encouraging safer driving and reducing the number of accidents. This, according to an official from the company’s Client Relations and Marketing Department, has been an ongoing commitment.
“SNIC has done this in the past and this is another one of the sessions in the education series for motorists. As an insurance company, we believe that it is important to keep motorists informed of their responsibilities as drivers. Walking away from this, we expect that of course, our drivers will be more informed and that they would now take the responsibility of driving more seriously,” one official told SKNVibes.
Bus drivers from the St. Peters, East and West circuits are expected to be present, as well as taxi operators from the St. Kitts Taxi Driver Association, the Liamigua Tax Driver Association and independent operators.
