    BASSETERRE, ST. KITTS, MAY 18TH 2006  - St. Vincent and the Grenadines Minister of  Urban Development, Labour, Culture and Electoral Matters, Hon. Rene Baptiste, is the Guest Speaker at this weekend's 74th Annual Conference of the ruling St. Kitts-Nevis Labour Party.

     

    Baptiste, a senior minister in the St. Vincent Labour Party of Prime Minister Dr. the Hon. Ralph Gonsalves, will address the Conference, to be held on Sunday 21st May at the St. Kitts Marriott Resort's Grand Dome (Events Centre) in Frigate Bay

     

    The Conference, which is chaired by Party Chairman and Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade, Industry and Commerce, Dr. the Hon. Timothy Harris, is being held under the theme "Facing the Challenges of a Transitioning Economy Renewal for Prosperity."

     

    National Labour Party Political Leader, Prime Minister, Hon. Dr. Denzil L.

     

    Douglas, in his address to the rank and file is expected to record the major achievements of his grass-roots political party over the last 12 months, give account of his stewardship and outline the way forward to ensure continued confidence in his three-term administration.

     

    He will also chart the way forward for the continued social, economic and political stability in the Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis during the opening session of the Conference, which is expected to be attended by the Diplomatic and Consular Corps, representatives of nongovernmental organisations, trade unions and overseas representatives of fraternal organisations.

     

    The newly-crowned Miss Labour, her runners-up and other contestants will be presented to Conference delegates and the Labour Party leadership will honour eight Mothers, one from each of the constituencies in St. Kitts during the public session of the Conference.

     

    During the Business Session which is closed to the public, the over 200 delegates from the overseas and local branche, Young Labour and Labour Women, will receive the National Executive and Financial Reports, discuss resolutions from the Executive and branches, elect a new National Executive and set the place and date for the next Annual National Conference.
