KINGSTOWN, St. Vincent – FROM a field of 10 beautiful and intelligent young ladies, Alphesia Matthews was adjudged the best one to wear the crown and carry the prestigious title of Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines for the next year or so.
The event took place at Victoria Park, St. Vincent on Saturday, May 29.
In the First Runner-up position was Anna Ellis while Kimeisha Bailey and Shannon Murphy were the Second and Third Runners-up, respectively.
Matthews also took the awards for Best Talent and Best Interview, while the Best Swim Wear and Miss Photogenic awards went Murphy and Best Gown to Ellis. Bailey copped the award for Best Community Spirit and Bonnie Allicot was awarded Miss Congeniality.
The other contestants were Hadia Creese, Jodesia John, Ashelle Morgan, Patsy Richards and Joeverne Webb.
The contestants competed in four-judged categories - Swimwear, Talent, Evening Wear and Interview.
The new Miss St. Vincent and the Grenadines will receive a three-year government-sponsored scholarship at the University of the West Indies from valued at EC$80 000, EC$8 000 cash prize from the CDC and other gifts.
She will also represent SVG in Miss Carival 2010 on Friday, July 2, 2010, where she will be competing against contestants from a number of other Caribbean countries.
