By: Terresa McCall, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POPULAR defence counsel Dr. Henry Browne has found himself on the other side of the law, having been arrested and charged with driving under the influence.

Information reaching SKNVibes is that at about 6:45 yesterday (June 1) Dr. Browne was driving a vehicle along the Bay Road when he was stopped by a member of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force.

Dr. Browne, this media house understands, was stopped as it was suspected that he was driving under the influence. When the officer sought to administer a test to ascertain whether or not it was intoxicated, Dr. Browne allegedly refused.

The lawyer was arrested and formally charged with “driving under the influence” and “resisting arrest”.

Sylvester Edwards, an occupant of the vehicle that Dr. Browne was driving, was also arrested and charged with “obstructing a police officer while in the execution of his duties”.

Both men were granted bail and are expected to make an appearance before the court shortly.

Dr. Browne is the second lawyer in as many weeks to have been arrested for running afoul of the law.

On May 21, 2010, Jason Hamilton of the law firm Hamilton & Company was arrested and charged after he was believed to have obstructed a police officer during the execution of his duties.

SKNVibes understands that police were executing a search warrant at a Dorset home when Hamilton arrived and obstructed the officers.

He was taken to the Basseterre Police Station, where he was formally charged. This media house understands that he was granted bail on that day.

He too is expected to appear before the court shortly.
