    Road Town, Tortola - Premier and Minister of Finance Honourable Ralph T. O’Neal, OBE, will on Thursday lead a delegation to Bermuda to attend the June 4–5 Pre-Overseas Territories Consultative Council (OTCC) meeting.

     

    Premier O’Neal will also meet with officials from the United Kingdom’s Department of Transportation including the Air Safety Support International.     Delegates convening in Bermuda will formalise common issues for discussion ahead of the annual OTCC meeting to be held in London later this year.

     

    Premier O’Neal will meet with counterparts from other United Kingdom Overseas Territories namely Anguilla, Bermuda, Cayman Islands, Montserrat and the Turks and Caicos Islands.

     

    Agenda items include civil aviation; naturalisation and the role of the Premier; constitutional advancement and discussions on the 1999 White Paper “Partnership for Progress and Prosperity” developed between Her Majesty’s Government and the Overseas Territories.

     

    The delegation includes fourth district representative, Dr. the Honourable Vincent Scatliffe, Assistant Secretary for External Affairs Ms. Najan Christopher, and Administrative Officer Ms. Jermine Barry. Director of the BVI London Office Mr. Kedrick Malone will join the delegation in Bermuda.

     

    Following the pre-OTCC meeting, Premier O’Neal will travel to London, on June 6 for introductory meetings with new United Kingdom parliamentarians in the Foreign and Commonwealth Office. While in London, the Premier will meet with Honourable Henry Bellingham, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State with responsibility for the Overseas Territories, among other subjects.

     

    Discussion items will surround matters of economic and financial significance for the Territory and the possibility of appointing parliamentary secretaries. Premier O’Neal will also meet with officials from the United Kingdom’s Department of Transportation including the Air Safety Supply International.

     

    Minister for Communications and Works Honourable Julian Fraser will join the Premier and Ms. Barry as part of the delegation to London.

     

    As the elected head of government, the Premier represents the Territory both regionally and internationally to facilitate discussions with stakeholders on key issues of interest to the Territory.
