Why should the Federation have a Consulate in Western Canada?

The consulate on Canada’s pacific coast

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts, June 7, 2010 (PAM Public Relations Office Press Release) - Oak Bay is a municipality in the Capital Regional District on Vancouver Island in the province of British Columbia, Canada. It has seven towns, one of which is Uplands where the Consulate of St. Kitts and Nevis is located. This town, with its panoramic vistas and beaches on the Pacific Ocean is an upscale area that is home to wealthy residents in multi – million dollar homes that line the beach front.

The location of this consulate raises many questions. Consulates are located in principal cities mainly to serve two purposes. They provide aid and information to nationals of the accrediting country, namely St. Kitts and Nevis, and promote trade between the two countries.

This part of Canada is home to very few people who are not of European descent. The main minority ethnic group is a small Chinese community that has been resident there since the mid 1800s. In other words the first function of a consulate to provide aid to nationals of St. Kitts and Nevis living in the area does not really exist and certainly if there are a few nationals of the Federation living there it is not enough to justify a consular mission.

Secondly, consulates promote trade but Oak Bay is not an industrial nor agricultural city. The only trade that this community would generate is a cadre of millionaires looking for second homes in the Caribbean. Thousands of acres of Kittitian land and, as a result, millions of dollars of Kittitian wealth have already been lost to citizens of this Federation under the dubious guise of foreign investment. However, the only people who have benefitted from this wholesale transfer of wealth have been those who have been invited here to dispossess already poor Kittitians.

It certainly begs the question; why is the Denzil Douglas regime so determined to make Kittitians poorer.

The person listed as the owner of this exclusive property is identified as a dealer in rare manuscripts and other artefacts and his business is actually based in Texas, USA. The business that is being run out of this consulate of St. Kitts and Nevis only needs a phone, computer and fax machine. One wonders what kind of business this could be because it recalls another business that has equally few requirements; namely Lex Consulting LLC.

One wonders what perks are attached to the owner for allowing the government of St. Kitts and Nevis such use of and access to his mansion. One also wonders who is paying for these perks.
