BASSETERRE, St. Kitts –A sentencing hearing for robbery convicts Alester Amory and Leon Phillips was delayed again today (Jun. 7), following the arrest of the duo’s attorney Dr. Henry Browne.

Browne, a prominent defence counsel, was arrested and charged with driving under the influence and resisting arrest last Tuesday after allegedly being stopped along the Bay Road by a member of the Royal St. Christopher Police Force.

The attorney was almost immediately granted bail and is expected to make an appearance before the court shortly. However, Browne was not present at today’s (Jun. 7) sentence hearing to bring closure to the ongoing robbery case against Amory and Phillips.

Presiding judge His Lordship Justice Francis Belle ordered the Court to contact the defence attorney and set this Thursday (Jun. 10) as the new date for the hearing. Efforts to contact Dr. Browne were unsuccessful.

Amory and Phillip were charged for a July 17, 2009 incident in which Jervin Nisbett, an employee of the St. Christopher Air and Sea Port Authority who resides at Ponds Extension, was robbed of a sum of money and his Blackberry Bold cellular phone.

The two-hour hearing held on May 13 ended with an all-woman jury handing down a unanimous guilty verdict for both men. A previous sentencing was scheduled for May 27, but was delayed until today. A further delay until Thursday will make it almost a month since the conviction.

It is at this point unclear why Browne was absent for the hearing, but he is expected to be in court with his two clients Amory and Phillip to bring the robbery case to an end.
