Road Town, Tortola - Cabinet has approved the construction of restroom and storage facilities for the Festival Grounds in Road Town, Tortola.

The facility will include store rooms for festival equipment, male and female modern restrooms and a small meeting room, among other things. The Ministry of Education and Culture has paid an average of approximately $60,000 annually for the rental of restrooms for the Road Town Festival activities alone. Over the last ten years, this has resulted in over $600,000 being expended in the rental of restrooms for the Road Town Festival only.

Cabinet has therefore approved the sum of $226,044.77 for the construction of the restroom and storage facility as a “one off” investment. This course of action, which is long overdue, will save the Government of the Virgin Islands huge sums of money in the future. The contract for this project was awarded by Cabinet to Quomar Construction.

On behalf of the Virgin Islands Festival and Fairs Committee, the Ministry of Education and Culture, craves the indulgence of the public during the construction phase, as “we exhaust all efforts to ensure that our festival activities are safe, enjoyable and cost effective.”

Part of the Ministry of Education and Culture’s mission is to facilitate access to and participation in sports, recreation and culture in order to enrich the lives of all residents of the Virgin Islands.|
