BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - In partnership with the University of Central Florida Burnett Honors College and generous support from DHL Express, the St. Kitts-based Kalinago Group will organize a comprehensive overhaul of the computer and science labs at Estridge Primary School between June 10th and June 16th.
Along with DHL, sponsorship from corporate citizens Scotia Bank, National Bank, SL Horsfords, St.Kitts Bottling Company, and Honorable Senior Minister Dr. Timothy Harris are enabling this project to include more than a simple donation of computers, books, lab equipments and materials.
Our work will entail a renovation of the labs appearance and various activities for the students over the week, including a DHL sponsored cricket match between the UCF students and the Estridge Primary Cricket team on Thursday 16th June. As education is very important to both the members of the Kalinago group and the UCF group, we are launching this partnership to rejuvenate Estridge Primary, as we know that with the right tools and support our children will be able to go further than any of our dreams.
The Kalinago Group is a recently-formed non-governmental organization dedicated to grassroots development in St. Kitts. Through deep respect for the rich history of our country and we drew the name Kalinago from the original name of our island's first settlers. The Kalinago Indians were and still are a self-reliant people who developed an egalitarian system where everyone held an important role to play in society no matter their age, gender or position.
The Kalinago Group has a clear vision defined by our goals of educating our youth, preserving environmental assets through entrepreneurial and environmental projects that will allow us to train future professionals, thereby ensuring a level of sustainability into the future.
The UCF Burnett Honors College has organized a summer study abroad course in St. Kitts-Nevis since 2008. Building on a long-standing relationship between the federation and the Mukhti Fund, UCF students have participated in service learning projects in public health, education, sea turtle monitoring, and more, while learning first-hand about Kittitian and Nevisian culture, history, and politics.
The Kalinago Group thanks all of our partners/sponsors and the dedicated teachers of the Estridge Primary School, who continue to show our youth the importance of an education.
