Hon. Shawn K. Richards Congratulates SKABA Junior Champions

Hon Shawn K. Richards celebrates with the Champions
PRESS RELEASE

Sandy Point,St.Kitts (June 8th 2010)-People’s Action Movement Deputy Leader and Constituency#5 representative the Hon. Shawn K. Richards has congratulated the Sandy Point Fruta Falcons on winning their unprecedented 5th straight St.Kitts Amateur Basketball Association Junior Division title.

The Sandy Point youngsters out-classed their finals opponents the Rams Hitters to win the SKABA Junior Finals Championship series with a clean sweep.

The People’s Action Movement MP was on hand at Basketball City to see his team win yet another Junior division title in a spectacular and exciting manner. The 2nd term parlimentarian greeted the team immediately after their victory and joined in the celebration that culminated in their hometown of Sandy Point.

“I am not surprised by the success of the young Sandy Point team and I am extremely proud of them,” said the Constituency #5 MP Shawn K. Richards.

“I have watched as the team has progressed over the last 5 years and I have been there with them supporting them in every way possible along the way so it is certainly heartening to see the tremendous success they have achieved in this historic 5th straight championship.”

The team has had a number of obstacles including the persistant problem of lighting at the Sandy Point basketball court where the team practices. According to Coach Sean “Bucksy” Crossley the team has suffered from lack of pratice due to the lighting situation which has plagued the team for years.

“The Sandy Point court had been without lights more often than it has over the years and the team suffered tremendously because of that. However due to the diligience and persistence of our constituency representative and team patron the Hon. Shawn K. Richards the gov’t finally gave us some form of lighting in October last year and despite being without proper lighting for at least 2 years and 2 SKABA seasons our guys were still able to dominate and win the junior championship,” said Team Coach Sean Crossley.

Crossley has been the most successful SKABA coach over the last 5 years having led his team to 5 straight championships which is unmatched by any other coach over the same period.

The Fruta Falcons have won 6 Junior titles including the last 5 consecutive years. And based on their tremendous success the team is considered one of the best Junior team programmes in the history of SKABA.
