BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A contestant from St. Maarten has been recently added to the Miss Caribbean Culture Queen Pageant that is slated for July 27.
Marjorie Cortico-Ramirez’s inclusion into the pageant makes a total of nine countries that will be competing in Introductory Speech, which will be presented in an ambassadorial wear; Swimsuit; Talent; Evening Wear; and Interview.
The pageant will be staged under the theme “Embracing a Fusion of Caribbean Culture”, which was chosen because the organising committee believes that the Caribbean is a melting pot of traditions, customs and folklore.
Last year the pageant was won by Miss St. Kitts Mariece Roberts and this year, Lanein Blanchette, who was the First Runner-up in the 2009/10 National Carnival Queen Pageant, will be representing the island while Nevis will be represented by reigning Miss Culture Masinda Nisbettt.
According to the pageant’s promoter, Randy Jeffers, this would be the fifth year since the event was initiated. He noted that the pageant was born out of the need to add something new to the annual Culturama activities.
“I love pageants and it’s a way for me to give back to my community,” he said. Jeffers stressed that the pageant gives the contestants an opportunity to showcase their talent and beauty to the general public.
The other contestants are Sangrena Harris representing Anguilla, Sharlene Lindsay of Montserrat, Marcellina Ventura of St. Croix, Keda Lou-Ann Pascal of Trinidad and Tobago, Tanika Walton of Barbados and Marcia Baptiste of Dominica.
Guest artistes will include Infamus, Konris Maynard, Dagah, Pan Ensemble, and Eclectic Band featuring King Meeko, Karaoke Idol host Noah Mills, Lauren Barry and Ryhanna Wong.
Dominica has dominated the pageant by winning in two successive years, while the first one was won by Miss Nevis and last year’s win went to St. Kitts.
