Spice Mill…great venue, excellent food

By: Cherisse M. Sutton-Jeffers, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - COZY, relaxing and exquisite are just a few words one can use to describe the beauty of a beach-front restaurant called Spice Mill, which is located at Cockle Shell Bay on the Southeast Peninsula.

Viewing Spice Mill from the outside, one may classify it as one of those pricy, upscale restaurants. However, when one climbs the stairway that leads to the beautifully and uniquely decorated dining area, one will indeed say upscale, but not high-priced. It is affordable for the ordinary man in the street and has a pleasant staff, who all serve customers with a smile and an attitude that encourages one to make repeated visits.

Management and staff of SKNVibes lunched at the restaurant on Sunday, June 13 and the food, as well as the service received high praise from everyone. One of most people’s favorite on the menu was the Seafood Gumbo served with Johnny Cakes.

The restaurant offers full course meals from appetizers to desserts. One unique desert is the Pumpkin Cheese Cake; a desert that is alien to many people’s ears and taste bud. Most people in the Federation can speak of Cheese Cake but not of that with pumpkin. The entire staff of SKNVibes commended the management and chef, noting “it was delicious”.

Not in the mood for food? That is no problem. The restaurant also features a breezy bar on the sands of the beach, where patrons can sit, imbibe and listen to the music of a versatile two-man band, or relax on one of the comfortable small beds built on the outside, complete with umbrellas.

The Spice Mill Restaurant is owned by Roger Brisbane, who took timeout to greet SKNVibes’ management staff and to ensure their stay was comfortable. He is inviting everyone in the Federation to visit the restaurant, at least once, and promises “you will surely want to return”.

One of the most assuring aspects of the restaurant, is that patrons do not have to don their ‘Sunday’s best’; they can even be attired in their bathing suits and enjoy the inviting waters of the Cockle Shell Beach.

The restaurant opens every day from 11:30 to 9:00 p.m. except on Mondays.
