BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOUR-TIME National Calypso Monarch Konris Maynard will finally release his long awaited ‘Take the Oath’ music video tonight on Channel 24 PEP TV, which airs from 8:00 p.m.

Maynard, who entered the senior monarch competition in 2005, has made history by being the first calypsonian in the Federation to win the National Calypso crown on four successive occasions. He however declined to defend his crown in the 2009/2010 competition, which was won by King Socrates.

Although he did not participate in the competition, Maynard did contribute to the National Carnival with the release of a song called ‘Take the Oath’.

Maynard has decided to release the music video to that song in time for the 14th St. Kitts Music Festival, as his contribution to the annual event.

Maynard told SKNVibes that he and his team have tried to do something different with the video and he is excited in having people see it.

“I’m excited. We’ve been working on it for some time and I would like to thank Tru Capo, the producer of the video, for his hard work and patience,” he said.

Scenes were shot during the National Carnival shows and events including the National Carnival Queen Pageant and J’Ouvert.

Maynard extended special thanks to Inferno Parade Troupe and Ronnie Rascals’ J’Ouvert Troupe. He also is also grateful to the St. Kitts-Nevis Defence Force and the various primary schools that were involved in the shoot.

In a previous interview, Maynard told SKNVibes that the song is saying that no one is allowed to jam during carnival without taking an oath to love their country, and to always be there to care and put the country first.

A line in the song says, “For this carnival I want to see you raise your hands up to the sky…it’s time to take an oath so that no more young souls will die…”

Maynard said that he was fed up of hearing about the senseless killings in his country and wanted to create a song with a strong message; a song that could also be entertaining and used on the road during carnival.

The four-time Calypso Monarch said that he has his eyes set on successfully defending his crown at the Leeward Island Calypso Monarch competition, which will be held in Anguilla in August.

He also hinted that he might return to the national calypso arena in December.

“There is nothing set in stone; there is a prospect of a comeback this December,” he said.
