Kittitian among 2010 Gay Caribbean/USA Pageant contestants

    BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – A Kittitian is among seven contestants from around the Caribbean who will be competing in the Miss Gay Caribbean/USA Pageant scheduled for the Sanders Studio in Brooklyn in September. 

     

    Contestants vying for the crown are Ven Detta St. Mykael of Barbados, Sassy Sylvia of St. Kitts, Victoria of Guyana, Kelis of the Dominican Republic, St. Lucia’s Lady Blu, Liyana Grey of Jamaica and Jennifer Banks of Trinidad and Tobago.

     

    The contestants will make their first public appearance at the official launch on Sunday, July 18.

     

    According to a press release, at the Launch Extravaganza, the contestants would be featured in ‘Wow Wear’, which consists of over the top attire designed by Caribbean, New York-based designers Jennefer Darmanie and Gennell Lewis.

     

    The launch will also feature the 2009 Miss Gay Caribbean/USA Mimi Mancini, who represented Jamaica, and Tyra Sanchez, winner of the Ru Paul Drag Race Competition.   

     

    The pageant is in its second staging and, according to its website, the Gay Caribbean/USA Pageant is an event developed to help foster tolerance of the gay lifestyle within the Caribbean/American community. Thus, creating a spirit of openness and exposing creative talent. 

     

    It is also stated on the site that the pageant has generated a lot of buzz within the Caribbean/American and gay communities; whereby, gaining lots of media attention for itself.
