BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – POLICE have confirmed that Hendricks Roberts’ death was an act of murder and one individual is in custody assisting with investigations.
A press release from the law enforcement body states that Resident Pathologist Dr. Nunez performed an autopsy on the body of Roberts yesterday (Jun. 22) and found that cerebral contusion to the head was the cause death.
According to UCLA Health System, cerebral contusions are scattered areas of bleeding on the surface of the brain.
The release further states, “The Head of the Criminal Investigations Department wishes to inform the general public that the death of Hendricks Roberts, 27 years, of Stapleton is now the subject of a murder investigation. One person has been arrested on suspicion in connection with this investigation. Investigations into this mater are ongoing.”
The body of Roberts was found early Monday morning (Jun. 21) lying motionless along a dirt road leading from Stapleton Village to Fountain Estate in St. Peters.
According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, a report was made at the Stapleton Police Station at about 5:30 a.m. that a man, believed to be dead, was seen lying face-down on the main dirt road leading to Fountain Estate.
“Police responded immediately and investigations revealed that the body was that of 27-year-old Hendricks Roberts of Stapleton Village. He was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Mervyn Laws, who declared that there is no apparent cause of death at this time. The police however are treating this case as a homicide,” Henderson said.
Roberts’ death marks the 16th homicide committed in the twin-island Federation for the year. The last person killed was Sylvester Lee (30), who was shot around 10:35 p.m. on Monday, May 31 while in the vicinity of Wy’s Shop at Lower Fiennes Avenue.
Investigations into this incident, as well as the other 14 homicides are also ongoing.
