BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – FOLLOWING investigations by the Criminal Investigation Department of the Royal St. Christopher and Nevis Police Force, a Stapleton Villager was yesterday (Jun. 23) charged with the murder of Hendricks 'Jahdeo' Roberts.

According to a police press release, 27-year-old Denver 'Backa' Fyfield of Stapleton Village was formally arrested and charged on Wednesday at 1:35 p.m. on a warrant in the first instance for the murder of fellow villager Roberts (27).

The body of Roberts was found early Monday morning (Jun. 21) lying motionless along a dirt road leading from Stapleton Village to Fountain Estate in St. Peters.

According to Police Press and Public Relations Officer Inspector Vaughan Henderson, a report was made at the Stapleton Police Station at about 5:30 a.m. that a man, believed to be dead, was seen lying face-down on the main dirt road leading to Fountain Estate.

“Police responded immediately and investigations revealed that the body was that of 27-year-old Hendricks Roberts of Stapleton Village. He was pronounced dead by District Medical Officer Dr. Mervyn Laws, who declared that there is no apparent cause of death at this time. The police however are treating this case as a homicide,” Henderson said.

However, an autopsy performed on Roberts’ body on Tuesday by Resident Pathologist Dr. Adrian Nunez Quintana revealed that death was caused by cerebral contusion to the head.

According to UCLA Health System, cerebral contusions are scattered areas of bleeding on the surface of the brain. This is normally caused by a blow to the head.

Police informed that Roberts may have been murdered sometime between June 20 and 21, and investigations are ongoing.

Roberts’ death has taken the number of homicides committed in the Federation for the year to 16; 12 on St. Kitts and four on Nevis.

UPDATE: Denver Fyfield appeared in court this morning and was remanded to her Majesty's Prison.
