BVI Press Release

B.V.I. - Minister for Communications and Works, Honourable Julian Fraser RA told the Department of Information and Public Relations that the completion of the new Minton Hill Reservoir is essential to Virgin Gorda as the reservoir serves almost half of the residents on the island plus many hotels and villas. “We are excited and we look forward to the day when we can commission the reservoir and the people are able to benefit from the significant improvement in the quantity of water they will have access to,” Minister Fraser stated. – The newly installed reservoir located at Minton Hill, Virgin Gorda is one step closer to completion for the residents of the Valley, Little Dix, Mahoe Bay and the other surrounding areas.

Deputy Director of Water and Sewerage Mr. Manoherlal Kerof reported to the Ministry of Communications and Works that soil and concrete tests were conducted, the old fiber glass reservoir has been dismantled, and the old 225,000 imperial gallon reservoir has been replaced with one that has the capacity to hold 450,000 imperial gallons of water.

In January of 2009, Water Engineering and Pipeline Company Limited (WEPCO) of St. Lucia was awarded a $373,900.00 contract for the construction of a new reinforced concrete slab and the replacement of the old reservoir with a new steel glass-fused one.

“Currently pressure testing of the reservoir and periodic inspections are being carried out to ensure that the reservoir is functioning at full capacity,” Mr. Kerof reported. The Ministry of Communications and Works is committed to ensuring the continued development and maintenance of public infrastructure in support of an enhanced community life for every resident and visitor to the Virgin Islands.
