Road Town, Tortola: Monday, June 28, 2010 - Peter Island Resort was the venue for the 44th Installation Dinner for the Rotary Club of Tortola, which was jointly hosted by outgoing President Leroy Moses and incoming President Lorna Smith.

If Friday’s installation dinner is any indication of what is to come, Rotarians can expect a full year of activities; a strong commitment from its membership; a straight forward agenda led by a passionate and proven leader in Smith, whose notable achievements are recognized locally and internationally.

After serving as Community Services Director, Sergeant at Arms, Vice President and being active in several fundraising activities of the Club including the Haiti Project and the Grand/Virgin Affair for a decade Smith was inducted as the Club’s next president on Friday, June 25. She was inducted by Incoming District Governor of 7020 Diana White who will herself be inducted by the President of Rotary International this Saturday July 3, 2010 in the USVI.

According to Smith, some of her goals for the upcoming year includes, “training for teachers to cope with special needs, promotion of prevention and early detection of Cancer, completing the school in Haiti and continuing in the forty-two year old tradition of Rotary”.

President Lorna’s, theme song for the year is ‘Heal the World’, which she says represents the ideals of Rotary and why we exist. She asked that the members of the club commit to building a bigger, better, bolder Rotary Club of Tortola as we seek to make our world a better place to live in.

The Rotary Club of Tortola was founded in 1968 and has 86 members.  The theme for this upcoming Rotary Year is “Building Communities - Building Continents.
