Road Town, Tortola: Monday, June 28, 2010 - The new President of the Rotary Club of Tortola has pledged that the Club will continue to fulfill its mission to serve the BVI as well as to fulfill the goals of Rotary international.
Lorna Smith was inducted as the Rotary Club of Tortola’s next president during a dinner on Friday, June 25. She succeeds Leroy Moses as President of the Club.
Other members of the Club’s 2010-2011 board were inducted on Friday. They are Vice President Archibald Christian, President-Elect Brian Liverpool, Secretary Susanna Hennighan-Potter, Secretary Elect Karia Christopher, Treasurer Julian Johnson, Sergeant-at-Arms Sam Welch, and Directors Valerie Georges-Thomas, Cate Stephenson, Laura Greces, Stephen Cooper and Joycelyn Murraine.
In addition to installing its new Board, the Rotary Club of Tortola on Friday also honoured Director of YEP, Stacy Mather a member of the community, and Rotarians Percy Rhoden and Pauline Robinson of the Rotary Club of Tortola with the prestigious Paul Harris Fellowship.
Paul Harris Fellowships are named for the founder of Rotary International and are given to persons in the community who demonstrate a commitment to Rotary values of service, ethics, and goodwill.
Secretary Pauline Robinson was also named Rotarian of the Year for 2009-2010. During the evening, Immediate Past President Leroy Moses also presented special awards to Rotarians who distinguished themselves during the past year; they were Rotarians Joyce Murraine, Lynette Harrigan, Lorna Smith, Jonathan McCarthy and Bernard Penn.
