B.V.I. Friday, June 25 - This follows the demit from office by Ms. Kathleen Quartey after the expiration of her contract appointment on June 24. The Government of the Virgin Islands wishes to express thanks to Ms. Kathleen D.K. Quartey., Ms. Quartey served in the post of Attorney General in the Attorney General’s Chambers for a period of three years from June 24, 2007 to June 24, 2010. - His Excellency the Governor, after consultation with the Judicial and Legal Service Commission, has approved the acting appointment of Mr. Baba Aziz, Principal Crown Counsel, Attorney General’s Chambers as Attorney General with effect from yesterday, June 24 until further notice.
The newly appointed acting Attorney General Law holds a Master of Laws (LLM) degree from The American University in Washington, D.C., a professional certificate of law from the Ghana School of Law and a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from the University of Ghana. He was called to the Ghana Bar in 1988.
His work experience includes Research Attorney & Junior Counsel, Basansang Law Chambers, The Gambia, West Africa, Legal Counsel and subsequently Legal Manager of the Gambia Assets Management & Recovery Corporation.
Mr. Aziz joined the Attorney General’s Chambers in June 2001 and was appointed on contract in the post of Senior Crown Counsel. He was subsequently promoted to the post of Principal Crown Counsel in 2007.
He acted as Solicitor General from March 8 to April 8, 2010 and as Attorney General on several short stints during the absence of the former Attorney General, Miss Kathleen Quartey, while she was on leave or official duties overseas.
As Acting Attorney General, Mr. Aziz is responsible for serving as the chief legal advisor to the Government as established by the Constitution and managing the administration and activities of the Attorney General’s Chambers.
