    B.V.I. Monday, June 28 - The Ministry of Finance’s Project Support Services Unit (PSSU) was tasked with overseeing the project. The project began in March of this year, with an expected duration of 15 months at a total cost of $2,981,481.84. –The Francis Lettsome Primary School’s new administration block is expected to be completed for the 2011 fall semester.

     

    Project Engineer with the PSSU, Mr. Kevi Potter said, “The project was initiated to replace the old staff and classroom block.” Mr. Potter further stated, “Once completed, there will be six classrooms, a staff room, a library and a computer resource centre.”

     

    According to Project Coordinator with the PSSU, Mr. Duane Fraites, works are on schedule and awaiting the procurement of the steel frame structure.

     

    At present, block work is ongoing at ground level in preparation for the steel frame structure. The finished project will include a new administration and classroom building, an entrance gazebo to connect the new building to an existing one, as well as landscaping.

     

    The project team comprises the contractor, International Construction Ltd, the project manager, Mr. Allen Wheatley of W & W Project Management Services, architect, Ms. Avaline Potter of A R Potter & Associates, and engineer, Mr. Jerome Frett of Jerome Frett Consultant Engineer. Additionally, Mr. Ulric Dawson of Dawson Wells Consulting Engineers Ltd provided the structural design of the building during the design phase.

     

    The Project Support Services Unit was established by the Ministry of Finance to implement and maintain a project management system of policy and procedures to ensure the effective and efficient management of all government projects, with the goal of achieving value for money.
