B.V.I. Monday, June 28 - The charter was launched last week at a brief ceremony as part of the activities to celebrate the offices’ Open Day, which was attended by approximately 120 individuals throughout the course of the day. – His Excellency the Governor Mr. David Pearey officially launched the Governor’s Office service charter.

The Governor in his remarks welcomed the invited guests and explained the importance of launching the service charter. He said, “I see this launch as part of the process of assuring that the Governor’s Office and all those that work in the Governor’s Office are never remote from the people of the BVI. What we are doing today is part of that continuing effort to ensure that we are close to understanding their needs.”

He shared, “There is quite a lot of meat in this service charter. This is more than just words it has to mean something in the terms of the delivery of service to the people. As Governor, I need to understand very clearly what is in the charter and I know all the staff of the Governor’s Office will be doing exactly the same. We need to deliver to the standards we have set for ourselves in this charter just as all other parts of government services with similar charters need to do the same.”

“I look to the Governor’s office staff, all of whom are committed to the ideals and standards in the service charter to live up to the words that are printed in the charter,” the Governor said.

Deputy Governor, Mrs. V. Inez Archibald said she has a particular interest in the service charter.

She said, “The launch of the charter will take us one step further along in our quest for a continuous changing or reforming public service.”

Mrs. Archibald explained, “As I have visited around different departments, I have sat with heads and have worked with them with their service charters. I have observed that 95% of the complaints coming out of the Complaints Commissioner’s Office can be averted, if we observed what we promised to observe in our service charters.”

The Deputy Governor made reference to maladministration and not responding to clients by the time stated in the service charter. “I hope the launch of your charter will assist us in cutting that number back to zero percent,” the Deputy Governor said.

Copies of the charter are available from Governor’s Officer or from the Government’s Help Desk located on the ground floor of the West Atrium of the Government Administration Building.
