BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WILLIAM ‘SCUDUMBA’ GIFT, the Sandy Pointer who was found guilty of having sexual intercourse with a pig, was yesterday (Jul. 1) sentenced to 18 months hard labour by Justice Francis Belle.

Gift, who was charged with the offence of ‘Beastiality’ and was found guilty by a 12-member jury on Thursday, June 24, was first told by Justice Belle that he would impose a fine on him to which the convicted man said he was unable to pay.

Subsequently, his Lordship decided to impose the custodial sentencing as he took Gift’s previous convictions into consideration.

The offense took place on December 25, 2009 in Sandy Point, which saw five witnesses testifying.

When asked about defending himself during the trial, the unrepresented accused had decided to remain silent.

Meanwhile, John Harvey, who was found guilty of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, was also sentenced yesterday in the same court. to 12 years in prison.

Before handing down a 12-year sentence, the judge told Harvey that the offence was a very serious one because it was not only committed on a minor that is under the age of 16, but in fact under the age of 14.

Harvey, who asked the judge to shown leniency, said it was not easy going to jail for a crime he did not commit.

His Lordship told Harvey that he was present in the High Court during the trial and did not say anything in his defence and, according to the evidence, the jury had a right to presume he was guilty.
