BASSETERRE, St. Kitts - POPULAR R&B singer/songwriter, rapper and record producer R. Kelly is being sued by former employee Anthony Navarro for overtime hours earned back in 2007 while the singer was on tour.
According to Yardflex.com, in legal papers, filed in an Illinois court, Navarro claims he and his fellow workers were sometimes forced to toil more than 80 hours a week to help with studio and tour preparations.
They were reportedly contracted to be paid time-and-a-half for the additional hours, but Navarro alleges he was only paid at the normal rate.
R. Kelly, who was born Robert Sylvester Kelly, was one of the first artistes named to perform at the 14th Annual St. Kitts Music Festival but he did not show up due to unknown circumstances.
Kelly is known for a collection of hit singles including ‘Bump N Grind’, ‘I Believe I Can Fly’, ‘Gotham City’, ‘Ignition’, ‘If I Could Turn Back the Hands of Time’, ‘The World's Greatest’, and his various chapters of ‘Trapped in the Closet’.
He has 10 solo albums under his belt and has won over 20 awards, including Top R&B/Hip Hop Artiste, Favorite Soul/R&B Single, Favorite Soul/R&B Album and Pop Songwriter of the Year.
