BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – WITH the aim of showcasing a higher caliber of unique creativity, style and fashion, the Miss Caribbean Diva Pageant is gearing up to be held at the Sir Rupert Briercliffe Hall in Tortola on August 21, 2010.
The contestants will be competing in Island Vibe (Ambassadorial Speech), Swimwear, Business Wear, Diva Wear and Evening Wear under the theme - “The explosion of creative style fashions the jungle fever in a bold Caribbean Diva”.
In a past interview with SKNVibes, Chairperson of the Organising Committee Shevone Thomas said foreign nationals in the BVI are sometimes marginalised when they vie for pageants, especially the Miss BVI Pageant. She added that to remedy this situation, the Miss Caribbean Diva Pageant was introduced to assist in the creation of positive unity among the contestants while marketing their countries.
Last year nine countries competed and St. Kitts’ Shinika Mercer was adjudged the winner.
SKNVibes has also learnt that the pageant is geared towards the contestants getting exposure through their unique style, while enhancing their self-confidence and motivating them to aim for and achieve higher accomplishments in life.
This initiative is said to be beneficial to the community, as it is made up of well-diverse people who needs the exposure and knowledge of sister islands.
For this year’s competition, the contestants are asked to create an evening wear out of red material that will depict the boldness of a woman. Last year, the material was white and it depicted the purity of a woman.
The pageant is in its third year.
