Middle Island man to serve 5 years for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – KINISKI LEWIS, 21, of Middle Island was yesterday morning (Jul. 5) at the High Court handed two five-year sentences for two counts of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, which will run concurrently.

Lewis, who changed his earlier plea to guilty of both counts, is currently serving an 18-month prison sentence. The judge however told him that the five-year sentence would begin on completion of the one he is currently serving.

On the first count, the court was told that that on August 13, 2009, a girl under the age of 16 went to spend the summer vacation with her mother at her Middle Island home. Lewis entered the home by climbing through the bedroom window of the juvenile’s sister.
The court was also told that they kissed, undressed and had sexual intercourse in that bedroom.

The other count of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge for which he was charged occurred on August 15, 2009.

Evidence presented in court indicated that on the day in question, the juvenile’s mother was not feeling well and she left her home for the hospital. At about 1:00 a.m., while the mother had not yet returned, Lewis called the girl, who was at the time sleeping with her sisters in the living room.

On acknowledgement of his call, the court was told that they both went into her mother’s bedroom and he had sexual intercourse with her. On completion of the act, they fell asleep on her mother’s bed.

On her return home, the mother called out to the juvenile, who had a towel wrapped around her body when she opened the door. At that time, the mother claimed to have observed Lewis struggling to put on his pants as he ran out of the house with his shirt in one of his hands.

Evidence also revealed that Lewis had forgotten his cellular phone in the mother’s bedroom and it was given to the police.

When asked if he had anything to say before being sentenced, Lewis said, “No your Lordship.”

Just before sentencing the young man, who was incarcerated since August 2009, His Lordship Justice Belle told him that the maximum sentencing for the crime he committed was life imprisonment.
