Two to be sentenced for Unlawful Wounding

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – TWO men, who were jointly charged with wounding with intent and unlawful wounding, had the first charge withdrawn after pleading guilty to the other.

Basil Brade and Derrick Newton appeared this morning (Jul. 7) in the Basseterre High Court before Justice Francis Belle and pleaded guilty to unlawfully wounding Patrick Hanley on Pond Road, Newtown, Basseterre on April 19, 2008.

They duo is being represented by Jason Hamilton and is scheduled to return to court at 2:00 p.m. today for sentencing.

Meanwhile, Quinn Nisbett will be able to breathe much better with the weight of three charges no longer resting on chest. He was charged with attempted murder, wounding with intent and unlawful wounding, all of which occurred on August 14, 2008.

However, the Director of Public Prosecution, Paulina Hendrickson, said in court today that she had filed a nolle prosequi application, which meant that the prosecution was no longer willing to continue the matter against Nisbett.
