All is not lost for Grand Masters Band

By: Suelika N. Creque, SKNVibes.com

BASSETERRE, St. Kitts – EVERYTHING is not lost for the Grand Master’s Band that experienced an unfortunate incident last Saturday night (July 3) when the vehicle transporting their equipment fell into the Caribbean Sea.

Although the incident postponed that night’s gig, the three-peat Road March champs was able to recover most of their equipment, and with other equipment in their possession will be performing this weekend.

SKNVibes spoke to Manager of the band Wingrove Hicks, who said that the incident occurred sometime between 8:30 p.m. and 9:00 p.m. at the Deep Water Port.

“It happened while we were preparing for a post music festival boat ride. The truck that was transporting the instruments lost control while reversing towards the boat and ended up in the sea,” he said.

Hicks said the driver did not sustain any injury and that they were ably assisted to remove some instruments from the water. He said that a well-known diver, ‘Kervis’, and members from the band assisted in retrieving the instruments.

“Some will not be able to use again,” he said of the instruments, “while those we were able to salvage, their life will be shorter.”

Hicks said they remained at the port until sometime after 3:00 a.m. retrieving and trying to restore the equipment.

Fortunately, those were not all of the band’s equipment and they are already preparing for their Friday night gig at The Strip in Frigate Bay, the Newtown Football team victory party at Club Kactus on Saturday night and Pon De Edge on Sunday night.

Hicks extended his gratitude to the many persons who assisted them in recovering the instruments, the staff of TDC for providing supplies to aid in the restoration of the electronic equipment, and all those who sent well wishes for them to get back on their feet.

The cancelled boat ride was organised by Potential Bar and, in addition to the Grand Masters Band, DJ Yardy and Small Axe Band were scheduled to provide entertainment for the patrons.
