KINGSTON, Jamaica – VYBZ KARTEL, also popularly known as ‘Addi de teacha’, has been in police custody since Friday, July 2 when it was made public that the lawmen were searching for him.

The dancehall artiste, whose real name is Adijah Palmer, according to the Jamaica Observer, was named as a person of interest by the St. Catherine South Police. After hearing the news, he went to the Greater Portmore Police Station accompanied by his attorney Christian Tavares-Finson.

According to another media source, One876Entertainment, Vybz Kartel was moved to Mobile Reserve headquarters to be fingerprinted, photographed and processed on Tuesday, June 6. It is still unclear whether the DJ has been charged with anything and the real reason behind his arrest.

The ‘Romping Shop’ singer has had an embattled year after being banned from performing in St. Lucia, Grenada and Barbados and has also been banned from entering the United States.

Vybz Kartel is one of the best and most controversial dancehall artistes to come out of Jamaica, and has managed to bring hits after hits from the inception of his career.

In January this year, he performed in St. Kitts to a huge crowd in Challengers Village at the People’s Action Movements Youth For Change Youth Rally.
