CHARLESTOWN, Nevis, July 14, 2010 (Press Release) - Talented West Indies middle order batsman, Runako Morton has been included in the Leeward islands senior cricket team that will engage in the first ever West Indies T-20 tournament.
When the team was originally released, the Nevisian right hander’s name was noticeably absent.
In a telephone interview yesterday, Morton who is currently training a his home base in Trinidad explained that initially he had sent a letter to the Leeward Islands crciket board requesting leave from the Leeward Islands tournament due to the fact that his wife was expecting a baby and he wanted to be there for her and his two other children during the critical time. He however noted that an error in the letter was almost costly to him.
Instead of writing that he would be unavailable for the Leeward Islands tournament as he intended, the letter stated that he was unavailable for the Leeward Islands team—a significant difference. He however was able to explain the error to President of the Leeward Islands cricket President Mr. Gregory Shillingford and apologized for the error.
Morton indicated that all he wants to do ‘is just play cricket’. He stated that he was practising really hard and was scoring heavily for his local club in Trinidad-- Queens Park. He remains committed to the Leeward’s team and intends to score heavily in the upcoming series.
