CHARLESTOWN, Nevis – AT a simple but significant ceremony held at the Ceciley Steven Grell-Hull netball complex, the Bank of Nevis Summer Cricket Coaching Clinic was declared opened on Monday 12, July 2010.
at the Ceciley Steven Grell- Hull netball complex. The ceremony which was chaired by Mr. Eric Evelyn commenced just after 10am.
The event was chaired by Eric Evelyn and the Minister of Sports, Hon. Hensley Daniel, made brief remarks in which he reminded the cricketers of the importance of being involved in such social activity and for not involving themselves in those of an anti-social nature that would see the operating outside the ambit of the law.
Minister Daniel thanked the parents for allowing their children to be a part of what he claimed could take them further into that particular discipline. He also congratulated the Nevisian team for winning the recently concluded Leeward Islands Twenty/20 tournament held in Antigua.
“I want to specially thank the sponsors for their support,” he added.
General Manager of the Bank of Nevis, Everette Martin also gave remarks, reminding the youths that the financial institution would always be there to support them. He also encouraged them to save and noted that they would be amazed as to how much they could have in the bank after a given period with the small amounts they put into their accounts.
President of the Nevis Cricket Association Ronald Powell spoke to the youths on being respectful to their coaches throughout the clinic and further on in life. He also thanked the financial institution, saying, “I wish to say special thanks to the Bank of Nevis for their sponsorship for the past four years that this clinic has been kept.”
Those who attended the event were entertained by the combined schools drummers and masqueraders from various schools who participated in the Ministry of Culture Easter Camp.
The clinic, which will run for two weeks from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 a.m., has significantly grown over the year. It currently has a strength of some 70 boys and girls between the ages of six and 13.
On conclusion of the clinic, the children will be awarded certificates for their participation.
